That ending was super creepy and super good. It felt like a really well directed movie with excellent cinematography. The battle in this issue was pure awesome ness. He draws things in such a perfect, nostalgic way, that also feels fresh and unique. Good God, Eddy Barrows' art is something special. I guess this is where he's focused his skill and attention. I can't believe this Robert Venditti is writing the trash fest known as Damage, or even Hawkman, which I find subpar compared to this. Unique, but not forced, with solid writing. If this series keeps it up, it could be remembered long after issue 12. After an excellent debut, we get an arguably even better second issue. An OK read, but Volume 1 is far better.THE GOOD: -This series is proving to be something special. The actual plot, alien bug invasion, is ok but the side plots struggle to excite. You could cut him out, wouldn’t change a thing. Firebrand is pretty much a background character through the entire book, he barely does a thing. Speaking as someone who both loves legacy characters and has read the entire original 70’s Freedom Fighters run, the ‘new’ versions of the characters are pretty bland. Gray/ Palmiotti are a solid writing team and Renata Arlem’s art is decent enough, but the issue is the characters themselves. You could Unfortunately this never quite lives up to the early promise.
